News from IVV (in portuguese)
The Institute of Vine and Wine (Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho I.P.‑ IVV) was founded as an umbrella organisation to spearhead the implementation of European Common Market regulations. In 1986, the IVV officially became the successor organisation to the former national wine board, the Junta Nacional do Vinho (JNV).
Today, the IVV (Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho I.P.) has assumed responsibility for the monitoring and control of the wine industry as a whole, and affiliated regional organisations; quality certification inspections; ensuring compliance to viticultural policy by regional organisations as well as the implementation of new legislation; and last but not least, overseeing wine marketing measures. Through the Comisão Nacional da OIV – the National OIV Commission (CNOIV), the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV) is also responsible for ensuring national representation at meetings of the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin – International Organisation of Vine and Wine) which has its head offices in Paris.
